Nayab Singh Saini takes oath as Haryana Chief Minister for the second time, marking the BJP’s record third consecutive term in power in Haryana.
The oath- taking ceremony was held at Panchkula’s Parade Ground in Chandigarh. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other top BJP leaders. The ceremony was also attended by 18 Chief Ministers from National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ruled states. This leadership transition represents a significant moment for Haryana’s political landscape.
This marks Saini’s second term as Haryana’s CM, following his initial appointment in March 2024. His appointment came after the sudden resignation of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. During his previous term, Saini took charge as CM as Khattar and his entire cabinet resigned. It came just months before the Lok Sabha elections. His rise is also symbolic of the BJP’s focus on maintaining caste balance and consolidating OBC support in the state.
Saini, an influential OBC (Other Backward Classes) leader, was chosen by the BJP as a strategic move to maintain the party’s support among OBC voters. It played a critical role in the election outcome. He was formally elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party in Haryana.

Political Challenges ahead for Saini
As Nayab Singh Saini begins his second term as Chief Minister of Haryana, he is expected to face several key political challenges:
- Balancing Caste Dynamics: As an OBC (Other Backward Classes) leader, Saini’s rise to power underscores the BJP’s strategic focus on the OBC voter base. However, managing the delicate caste equations will remain a critical challenge. Haryana has a complex social fabric, with significant representation from Jats, Dalits, and other communities. Maintaining harmony and ensuring that other castes, particularly Jats, feel adequately represented could pose a political balancing act.
- Economic Development and Job Creation: Haryana, being an agrarian and industrial state, faces challenges in creating jobs, particularly for the youth. The growing demand for employment opportunities and economic development will require Saini’s government to implement new policies. The policies that could encourage industrial growth and skill development to meet the aspirations of its young population.
- Agricultural and Farmer Issues: Haryana’s agricultural sector has been at the forefront of national debates, particularly with the farmer protests against the now-repealed farm laws. While those protests have subsided, agricultural challenges related to minimum support prices (MSP), crop diversification, and sustainable practices remain. Saini will need to navigate these issues carefully to avoid unrest among the state’s large farming community.
- Infrastructure and Development: Haryana has seen significant development in certain sectors. But there are disparities between urban and rural areas. Saini will need to focus on reducing these gaps by enhancing infrastructure, improving public services, and ensuring equitable growth across the state.
These challenges will require careful political maneuvering and effective governance to maintain stability and continue BJP’s dominance in Haryana politics.
