New Delhi: Delhi Court on Friday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Leader and former Delhi Cabinet Minister Satyendra Jain in money laundering case.
He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate(ED) on 30 May,2022 on charge of money laundering through four companies allegedly linked to him.
AAP Leader Satyendra Jain Granted Bail
The court’s decision to grant bail came after Jain spent several months in custody. The ED had alleged that Jain was involved in a complex money laundering scheme and had laundered crores of rupees. However, the court found that the prosecution had not been able to establish sufficient evidence to keep Jain in custody.
Jain’s release from jail is expected to boost the morale of AAP supporters and could have political implications for the party. As a senior leader and former minister, Jain’s absence from the political scene had been felt by the AAP. His return is likely to strengthen the party’s position in Delhi and other parts of India.
“Considering the delay in trial and long incarceration of 18 months, and the fact that trial will take long to start, let alone conclude, accused is favorably suited for the relief,” said Special Court Judge Vishal Gogne.
The judge granted the bail on furnishing of a bail bond Rs 50,000/- with two sureties of like amount.
According to the ED, Jain had laundered crores of rupees through shell companies and hawala transactions.
What were the allegations against Jain?
The ED’s case against Jain was based on various pieces of evidence, including:
- Property Transactions: The ED alleged that Jain had purchased properties in Delhi and Haryana using unaccounted-for funds.
- Shell Companies: The ED claimed that Jain had used shell companies to launder money.
- Hawala Transactions: The ED alleged that Jain had used hawala channels to transfer money illegally.
Jain had denied the allegations against him, claiming that the ED’s case was politically motivated. However, the ED continued to pursue the case, and Jain was eventually arrested.
The case against Jain is still ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether the ED will be able to prove its allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
Here are some additional details about the case

- Political Implications: The case against Satyendra Jain has had political implications for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of which Jain is a senior leader. The AAP has accused the ED of targeting its leaders for political reasons.
