Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in the lead roles of Ram, Sita and Ravana respectively, is one of the most anticipated Indian films at the moment. The film has been in the making for a while but the makers have not officially announced anything. It was just a few days ago that Yash, who is also the co-producer of the film, confirmed that he would be playing Ravana in the film. Now, actor Indira Krishnan who is playing Kaushalya in the film, has shared that actor Ravi Dubey would be playing Lakshman.

In a chat with a YouTube channel called Join Films, Indira said that the shoot of Ramayan is now complete and declared that she is playing Ram’s mother Kaushalya in the film. Indira was talking about television actors getting bigger opportunities as she too, has played a lot of roles in television serials. Here, she mentioned that Ravi Dubey, who initially gained fame for his roles in TV shows like Jamai Raja, Saas Bina Sasural among others, is playing Lakshman in the film.

“I am doing a film called Ramayan, the shooting is complete, and I am playing Kaushalya with Ranbir (as Lord ram). Ravi Dubey is in that, and he is playing Lakshman,” she shared. When asked about the film, she confidently said that the film is “100 percent a hit, it’s a superhit. Not because I am associated with it, or the star cast is big, but the visuals are great,” she said.

Arun Govil, who memorably played Lord Ram on television, will be playing Dashrath in the film. “He actually looks like Dashrath, just like he looked like Ram back in the day. When we were shooting, he would talk about the time when they made Ramayan,” she said.

Indira then praised Ranbir and called him a “sorted’ man. “He is a brilliant actor but he can connect with a common man. I have never seen him speak in a disrespectful way with anyone. The way he has respected me in the industry, I don’t think anyone else has,” she said and added, “I feel if anyone could have played Ram beautifully, it is Ranbir. I can’t see another actor playing Ram. He is a very versatile actor. And he challenges himself.” She also added, “He is one of the most concrete actors. He thinks before performing. He works on the scene and he works with the co-actor. He gives cues to the co-actors. And his eyes are his plus point.”

Indira then said that people would be curious as to what Ranbir and Yash can bring to the table as they play Ram and Ravana. She shared, “Ram and Ravana are your main characters so people would want to see what is it that Ranbir can do as Ram. So for Ranbir it becomes a challenge. Like Yash is doing Ravan, so for him also it is a challenge. How you convince the audience is a task for the director.” She also spoke about 2023’s Adipurush, which was also an adaptation of Ramayan, and discussed the film’s failure. “I feel the VFX and graphics there were not very good. Also the characterisation was not as good, people raised objections to the dialogues. So it is a very sensitive subject,” she said

Yash, in a recent chat with Film Companion, declared that he would be playing Ravana in the film. “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayan, if you had asked me ‘would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it,” he said.
